With the finish line is sight, the construction of Széchenyi István University’s Győr based Science & Innovation Park is now into its home stretch

The Széchenyi István University’s Science & Innovation Park in Győr is being created by transforming the city’s iconic industrial monument, the “cube building”. Among others, the Design Department of the Faculty of Arts, the Digital Development Center, and several key companies in the region will find their place within its walls. The park is being built 500 meters from the central campus and on the site of the old biscuit and wafer factory a hallmark of Győr’s history.

For Széchenyi István University, a close partnership with businesses in the region is essential as this is key part of the secret of the success for universities leading world rankings. 

In his speech, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó explained: a new world economy is being built as we speak. In relation to this, one of the most important resources of our country is its higher education system. 

Alfons Dintner, head of Audi Hungaria spoke about the close relationship between the company and the university. He said, professionals who have graduated from Széchenyi István University have played an important role in Audi since the beginning of its establishment in Hungary. He pointed out that nearly 80% of their 2155 engineers are graduates from their partner universities with more than half of them from Széchenyi István University. Finally, he expressed that the Science & Innovation Park will be the home of future solutions for sustainability, which will enable new interaction points and promote new forms of cooperation for both parties. 

Dr. István Szászi, head of the Bosch Group in Hungary and the Adria region emphasized “According to our strategic agreement with the Széchenyi István University, after ZalaZONE, we plan also to co-operate with each other within the walls of the Science & Innovation Park in Győr too.”

Professor dr. András Csaba Dézsi, mayor of Győr, said the biscuit factory is part of our past and the science park is part of our fantastic future.
