An agreement was signed on July 12 in Győr by the leaders of the National Institute of Hematology and Infectious Diseases at the South-Pest Central Hospital, Széchenyi István University, and its holding organisation, the Széchenyi István University Foundation. According to the agreement, the partners will cooperate in the future on all health technology areas in which they see common innovative development opportunities.
The National Institute of Hematology and Infectology of South-Pest Central Hospital is an institution serving approximately 1.3 million inhabitants in the Southern and Central Hungarian regions, the geographical areas covered by the institute. Furthermore, the institute manages many health organisations within its region including the Péterfy, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky, Jahn Ferenc and Toldy Ferenc Hospitals in Cegléd, the Rehabilitation Center in Nagykőrös and the Clinic in Szigetszentmiklós. The hospital cluster having 5,000 patient beds and 8,200 employees, treats 135,000 inpatients and 2.5 million outpatients annually.
Széchenyi István University, which is based in Győr, but is also present with its training and research in Mosonmagyaróvár, Zalaegerszeg and Budapest, is one of Hungary’s leading higher education institutions. Its student community of about 14,000 is made up of young people from seventy countries. It has extremely strong roots in technology and IT training that are complemented by quality health science training programs, among others.
The university established a Health Technology Campus in Győr with the intention of strengthening its programs in health training and related research & development as well as its precipitative innovation, and service competencies where the development of innovative health tools and procedures is a strategic goal and KPI.
The agreement contributes to the realization of these goals and was ratified in Győr by, Dr. Bálint Filep, president of the university, prof. dr. Ferenc Friedler, rector of the university, academic deputy president, prof. dr. László Palkovics, chairman of the board of trustees of the Széchenyi István University Foundation, its holding foundation, and prof. dr. István Vályi-Nagy, Director General of the National Institute of Hematology and Infectology of South-Pest Central Hospital.
