Széchenyi István University and Magyar Telekom Nyrt. have enjoyed an excellent partnership for many years. An important element of the cooperation is that the company supports the academic excellence of the institution with scholarships. At the award ceremony held recently, two undergraduates, one master, and one doctoral student were recognised for their efforts with the financial discernment.
Széchenyi István University and Magyar Telekom Nyrt. have been cooperating for decades in the training of high-quality professionals and taking part in joint research, development, and innovation activities. Thanks to the support of the market-leading telecommunications and IT company, full-time students from the Faculty of Mechanical, Computer and Electrical Engineering focusing their studies on business informatics, mechatronics engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering, as well as full-time students of the Multidisciplinary Doctoral School of Engineering can apply for the Magyar Telekom scholarship.
At the ceremony, György Szilágyi, Magyar Telekom’s IP and transport network director, said „the partnership between the company and the university has been going on since the establishment of the predecessor Technical College of Transport and Telecommunications, which has played a key role in providing telecommunications professionals and overall scientific support of the Hungarian telecommunications network’s digitalisation.
He went on further to explain, „not only do we work together on training for the future, but we also have a number of joint innovations projects with the university which include research beyond the boundaries of traditional telecommunications into areas such as drone technology. Involving fresh minds in our innovation development activities has always been a priority for our company. Through our scholarships, apprenticeships, and our dual training programme, we also focus on recruiting top talent, those students whose skills we can count on in the future, even as employees.”
György Szilágyi also said, „Magyar Telekom, as one of Hungary’s largest telecommunications service providers, is at the forefront of technical innovation, introducing new solutions and products, which is unthinkable without the constant development and continuous learning activities that accompanies such endeavours. Young people who would like to work in this field and participate in future-oriented innovations should choose Széchenyi István University, where they can easily find the opportunities offered by Magyar Telekom.” He also pointed out that the company’s most important laboratory centre is also located on the campus of the University of Győr and the company has also been given space in the recently inaugurated Győr Innovation Park, which will further deepen their cooperation.
“The university and Magyar Telekom are currently working together on several joint projects, where together with the institution, they are carrying out various digital developments supported by appropriate technical infrastructure and networking tools provided by the company. One such example is the Driver 21 project, which enables the linking of real and virtual racing, i.e. an e-athlete sitting at a simulator can compare his skills with a professional driver live on the track. „Here we will mount a precision GPS on the race car and transmit the data to the simulator via a 5G network.”
– said Dr. Péter Prukner, Head of the RF Division of the Digital Development Centre of the institution. He added that an important element of the close partnership with the company is the scholarship programme, which is also a recognition of the quality of the university’s professional training programs. “The cooperation allows our students to join the company’s activities during their university years and so many of them find jobs with us after graduation,” he said.
