Széchenyi István University’s Vehicle Industry Research Centre (JKK) held a year-end ceremony, at which the objectives for the coming year were presented. At the event, three mentors were awarded for their work in the field of researcher training.
This year’s achievements were proudly looked back on by JKK staff and trainees at the end-of-year event held on 15 December. The ceremony was also an excellent opportunity to focus on the challenges for the coming year.
Among the main directions of JKK research, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles and systems, and the use of new computing tools are the most significant. In these areas, JKK works with a number of important partners, such as the HUMDA, the Hungarian Motorsport Development Agency and Techtra, the Technology Transfer Institute, both part of the Széchenyi University Group, which also included Innotech and other companies associated with ZalaZONE.
“Our research centre is very closely linked to industry. Therefore it is important for us to further develop our scientific activities, with the aim of formulating a publication methodology linked to our research strategy, as we are supported by important partnerships that need to be constantly supported and grown,” stressed Prof. Dr. József Bokor, President of the JKK and Vice President for Research & Innovation of Széchenyi István University, during the event.

“We have been able to present our professional activities at a national level, attracting new talented students and researchers to our community year after year. The work of many participants contributes to our results. Besides the researchers who form the professional core of JKK, the individual university departments, the HUN-REN Computer and Automation Research Institute, the staff of the Zalaegerszeg test track and our students work together in a complex team effort that supports our ongoing projects. The Centre’s main tasks also include researcher training and student talent management, supported by the student teams channelled through our specialised university level programs,”
said Dr Ferenc Szauter, Director of the JKK.
The event recollected on the year’s significant publications, professional awards, and conferences, as well as the successes of the student recruitment and induction programmes.
“We are very pleased that our students and their teams have continued to achieve excellent results this year, both in competitive and scientific-academic competitions. Ten of our students participated in this year’s 36th OTDK, two of which won special prizes, but that wasn’t all. Our own JKK marketing student-trainees were winners of a national marketing competition and the student teams SZEngine and Arrabona Racing Team achieved outstanding placings in several Formula Student events and competitions over the past 12 months. In special focus, the SZEnergy won two categories in the Shell Eco-marathon, the world’s largest energy efficiency competition, breaking its own world record two years in a row,”
proudly stated by Dr. Boglárka Eisingerné Dr. Balassa, Head of Marketing and PR at JKK, during her summarisation of the year 2023 results during the ceremony.
At the event, Zoltán Pusztai, Péter Gulyás and István Kecskeméti received certificates of appreciation for their excellent work in the field of post-graduate research education along with their former mentors Zoltán Szeli and Péter Kőrös. (Photo: András Adorján)
