Expanding partnerships, increasing academic activity, and individual professional development – the Neumann János Informatics College at Széchenyi István University has made progress in all areas over the past academic year. The student workshop, founded in 2014, is playing an increasingly prominent role in the public life of the University of Győr and has set itself a new goal: to achieve national qualification as a professional college.
Soon to celebrate its tenth birthday, the Neumann János Informatics College in Győr has significantly increased its scientific and professional visibility in recent years. The new management team, which was set up after the coronavirus epidemic and in close cooperation with the active membership, has set itself the goal of exploiting the potential of Széchenyi István University. The success of the joint efforts is reflected in the numerous events and scientific papers that have been produced.
“The work began in the summer of 2022, and it seems to be bearing fruit,” said András Mészáros, chairman of the student committee of the college.
“As a first step, we have amended the rules that define the legal framework of the college. This has made membership more flexible, removing obstacles to future growth and development. It also gave us the opportunity to be able to achieve the national vocational college qualification and hence certification, which will put us in a higher academic league. With this achievement, more available applications, more generous financial support, and participation in national programmes will all be the positive rewards of winning the title and therefore opening doors for us that we could only dream of before,” said the President.
In the previous academic year, the College made its greatest progress in academic activities, with one second place and two special prize-winning student research projects in the autumn, and two students also qualified for the national finals during the spring academic term.
“Our members work on a wide range of professional topics. Some research efficient video compression, others develop networked thermometers. In the framework of our collaboration with the SZESAT college, one of my students and I are involved in the development of a high-altitude balloon flight control system, but we also have a member who is working on the design of a solar panel rotation system,” said András Mészáros, who gave an insight into the college’s research portfolio.
The College, together with the Morus Leadership Academy, organised several open lectures on the rise of cryptocurrencies and helped to organise a roundtable discussion on the IT integrated topic of Cybersecurity with the Student Government and Audi Hungaria Zrt., hosted by Széchenyi István University. The activity of the members is reflected by the large number of participants in various planned events such as the Graphisoft C++ Challenge, the Dell conference in Budapest, and even a professional excursion to the Paks nuclear power plant led by Dr. Miklós Berta, associate professor. Our students also represented the College at the Atlassian Day 2023 event organised by META-INF Ltd.
“Our industrial relations are wide-ranging,” explained János Hollósi, the College’s programme director.
“Among others, we also cooperate with Audi Hungaria Zrt, Appentum Kft. and Dell Technologies Hungary. Regarding the Competence Centres of the Széchenyi István University, we have also built close relationships with the Digital Development Centre and the Automotive Research Centre. We are proud to have a friendly and collaborative relationship with the College of Energy Engineering At the Budapest University of Technology and Economics,” said the programme director.
Overall, the College has recently embarked on a dynamic development roadmap, which would not have been possible without its motivated and enthusiastic membership.
The College is looking for new members.
