Széchenyi István University has been ranked among the top 400 universities in Europe by the international higher education rating organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in its latest European ranking published on the 20th of September. The university owes its success primarily to its excellent reputation for corporate sector integration and the high international student participation in both full and part-time course programs.
QS, one of the two largest international organisations for rating higher education institutions, published its European university rankings for the first time on September 20th. Széchenyi István University placed 382nd in the rankings. The prestige of the ranking is reflected by the fact that the University of Oxford, the Zurich University of Technology and the University of Cambridge are at the top of the list ranking placement in that order.
The ranking includes 690 out of almost 3,500 universities in 46 European countries, including 15 Hungarian universities, where the results rank Széchenyi István University as the sixth best in Hungary.
The institution is highly regarded by companies and employers, 142nd in Europe in this respect, and has a very high level of interest from foreign students in part-time courses (74th in this category).
Széchenyi István University is among the best in Europe at multiple levels.
“We have come a long way in recent years as reflected in our performance in international rankings. Our community is working to continue to catch up with the best in the world, which is of course not easy given the fierce competition. Our institution therefore provides outstanding resources to encourage the performance of our colleagues and students alike. This process is helped by the fact that for the fourth year running our University has a new structure, one that is more flexible and allows a greater freedom of creativity, with our innovation parks to be a new dimension and adding an advantageous catalytic environment for the future students, academia, and precipitative works of the university. The current ranking achievement is a great success for which we would like to thank all our colleagues, these include Dr. Eszter Lukács, Vice President for International and Strategic Relations, and the staff of the University Library and Archives who have taken on a significant role in the collection and provision of data for the rankings,” emphasised Dr. Bálint Filep, President of Széchenyi István University.
“The excellent ranking shows that our university is among the best in Europe in many fields. Higher education institutions are scaling up on the global stage, and we can only succeed in this competition if we build international relations and join international networks in the fields of training, research, and publications. We consider it a priority to help and support as many of our teaching staff, researchers, and PhD students as possible in order to join the international academic world. In addition to our excellent infrastructure, our university provides around 600 million HUF annually to contribute to the development of our colleagues through scholarships, publication fees, subscriptions to databases, and conference participation grants,” said Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice President for International and Strategic Relations of the university. She added that they are also looking forward to the publication of the Times Higher Education (THE) world rankings to be released on the 27th of September.
