Secondary school students given great opportunity: Mobilis in cooperation with the Széchenyi István University organises career guidance and engineering training days program

The Mobilis Interactive Experience Centre and Széchenyi István University presents natural sciences and engineering course material to students who are considering choosing a career in these technical fields of study in the framework of the planned career-oriented themed engineering days. Here secondary school students will learn about exciting topics such as drone technology, space exploration and the world of motorsports.

The Mobilis Interactive Experience Centre on the Győr campus launched the first career-oriented engineering theme days back in 2017, those target audience, secondary school students with a technical interest, were introduced to the interesting aspects of a wide variety of engineering fields through the interaction with young undergraduate engineering students. Mobilis created the extraordinary program series in cooperation with the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Automotive Engineering, the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transport Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical, Computer and Electrical Engineering, the Digital Development Centre of Széchenyi István University and HUMDA, the Hungarian Mobility Development Agency, a a member of the Széchenyi University foundation.

“Since then, the introduction and orientation of the technical and engineering career path opportunities and possibilities has been our utmost important strategic goal, the reason we organise the programme every year during the summer. Initially, we looked for university programs and faculties that were working intensively with new technologies that were also interested in bringing their results and methods closer to interest young people, future engineers. To this effect, we have chosen, among others, the Digital Development Centre of Széchenyi István University, from where three young engineers joined our preparations,”  said Bernadett Keszthelyi, Managing Director of Mobilis. She added that the program enrollment of the targeted student group was carried out with the involvement of the school district and several vocational training centres.

The first training day this year was held on the 20th of October at Mobilis, where the focus was on drone technology alongside IT related programs of study. Of course, this is no coincidence as Széchenyi István University is a leading player in drone research and development in Hungary.

“In addition to the presentation of invited engineers, the program also focuses on the students building up their own practical experience and is why we put tools in their hands to carry out measurements or create experimental devices throughout the theme day. This year, for the first time, they were able to fly with the available educational drones at Mobilis and take a closer look at the new and experimental drones on display and actually being worked on by the experts from the Digital Development Centre.”

– explained the Director.

In addition to shedding a light on the beauty of a career in engineering, the theme days also give secondary school students, who are about to embark on post secondary  studies, the opportunity to learn about various job opportunities and the working environment at multinational, medium, and small  sized enterprises alike.

“The program is an excellent opportunity for us young engineering professionals to encourage young people to consider engineering careers by showing them our personal career paths. By presenting state-of-the-art technologies and the opportunities offered by the university, we show them a complex but clear picture of the future by orienting them towards the specialised training and engineering careers offered by the Győr-based institution.”

– said Tibor Daliás, Developmental Engineer at the University’s Digital Development Centre. This year on the first day of the program , Dr. Ákos Kovács and Dr. Gergely Teschner, assistant professors at the University of Applied Sciences, presented the wonders of their engineering profession and its potential through their personal careers and experiences.

“Twenty-five secondary school students who are serious about further engineering studies took part in this year’s theme day. We want to give them all the help and support we can to find and develop their career path, this is an excellent opportunity to do so.”

– said Bélafalviné Vásárhelyi Hajnalka, deputy director of the Lukács Sándor Automotive and Mechanical Engineering Technical School and College of Győr SZC. She said that the technical school offers a good opportunity for students to learn a profession and prepare for an even higher level of qualification at the same time. Lívia Herold, the school’s vocational instructor, added that they had happily come to the theme day with great expectations and high hopes for their young people who were able to each acquire a direct personal experience regarding university life and studies and learn more deeply about its courses by asking questions directly to instructors and professors. This “theme day” experience will no doubt be  a great help for the soon to be university students in making their decision for further education.
